3am wake up call? Try this

I recently had a run of those 3 am wake up calls. You know the ones – you’re so tired, but your brain is fully committed to churning painfully and repeatedly through a list of your missteps and embarrassing moments, leaving you flushed with adrenaline and cortisol, quite unable to sleep.

Good times.

In the middle of one of these delightful sessions, I remembered a tip a client once shared with me.

When you’re running through all your mistakes, instead start listing your successes.

It really helps.

Each time the fails and dramas start playing, step in with a win.

  • A degree earned.

  • A person helped.

  • A funny joke told.

  • A delicious meal cooked.

  • A run completed.

  • A house cleaned.

  • A project won.

Visualise the event, remember how it felt, remember how capable you were and what agency you had.

Repeat as necessary, and sleep well.

Until next week,

Take care of yourself and others
Madeleine
