Time for a break

As you read this, I’ll be offline: taking a budget-friendly long weekend away to a historic town a few hours’ drive from my home. I’m very excited about it.

I am fortunate that I’m (at least currently) able to do so; mindful of those who are in lockdown and those whose finances preclude even a modest getaway at the moment.

What I’m really craving, though, is time off from the pressures of this year.

Although I’ve waited for this upcoming weekend to do that, it really needn’t have waited. It can be done anywhere. Time off from media input. Time sleeping, or lying in bed reading a good book. Time outdoors, whether that’s a walk in nature or around a 5 km block, or sitting in the sun on my balcony with my eyes closed. Unhurried time connecting with family and friends, whether in person or online.

Why am I waiting until next weekend to do all that? Perhaps I’ll start today.

Take care of yourself and others,

Madeleine
